Vikings Place Carson Wentz on Injured Reserve
The Minnesota Vikings have put quarterback Carson Wentz on injured reserve as of Monday. Reports indicate he is set to have season-ending surgery on his non-throwing shoulder.
Wentz stepped into the starting position after J.J. McCarthy sustained a high ankle sprain. His first game this season was against the Cincinnati Bengals on September 21, where he guided the team to a substantial 48-10 win. However, he finished with just one win over the four games he started.
In total, Wentz threw for 1,216 yards, achieved six touchdown passes, and had five interceptions. Interestingly, he apparently played through injuries in multiple games. McCarthy is expected to reclaim the starting role in Week 9 when the Vikings face the Detroit Lions.
Wentz was initially drafted second overall by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2016. He made a significant impact by becoming a Pro Bowler in 2017 and seemed on track for league MVP honors before an injury sidelined him. Nick Foles took over and led the Eagles to a Super Bowl win that year.
Post-2017, things took a turn for Wentz. He’s played for several teams since then, including the Indianapolis Colts and Washington Commanders. This marks his fifth team in five years since the 2020 season.
Entering Week 9, the Vikings are at a 3-4 record and really need to find a way to get back on track for playoff contention.
