German activist Naomi Seibt, often referred to as “anti-Greta,” has sought political asylum in the United States, asserting that she faces persecution in Germany for her political beliefs and her advocacy for free speech.
At 25, she has filed a petition under Section 208 of the Immigration and Nationality Act, highlighting concerns of potential imprisonment or physical danger if she returns to her home country. “I have now applied for asylum, which means I am waiting for an interview. And in the meantime, I am here legally,” Seibt shared.
Her aspiration is to ultimately become a U.S. citizen, as she believes America offers her a sense of hope. Seibt mentioned that her activism has even drawn attention from Elon Musk. “During the June 2024 European elections, I posted my support for the AfD, and that’s when Mr. Musk first reached out to me,” she recounted.
This move comes as U.S. policies under President Trump now prioritize applicants who claim persecution due to political speech or opposing government censorship. Certain Europeans expressing dissent on free speech may be fast-tracked for asylum processing.
Seibt has positioned herself as a trailblazer, claiming she is among the first to activate this new asylum framework. She asserts that returning to Germany would expose her to significant risks, citing being surveilled and threatened without support from authorities for years.
Reflecting on her experiences, she revealed, “In 2024, I realized I was under surveillance by German intelligence for years. Meanwhile, I’ve been receiving death threats from Antifa.” When she approached the police for help, they allegedly told her they could only intervene in cases of serious harm.
“I have no protection from the German government, even though it’s likely I could be killed,” she lamented.
Taking on the role of a martyr for free speech, Seibt pointed out, “In Germany, it’s illegal to tarnish a politician’s reputation. This law, especially under Chancellor Merkel, has led to arrests for people merely voicing their opinions. I believe that if I go back, they’ll try to arrest me.” Her activism gained traction when she challenged widely accepted views on climate change and immigration, which earned her the “anti-Greta” label.
Seibt expressed her surprise at gaining prominence as a right-wing figure at such a young age, noting the media frenzy that followed her rise. “I’m Naomi Seibt, and I want to be recognized for who I am,” she asserted, emphasizing her individuality.
She also mentioned her interactions with Musk, suggesting he was aware of the dangers present in Europe and had shown support for her asylum application. “He confirmed to me that there were significant threats, which motivated me to seek asylum,” she stated, underscoring the urgency of her situation.
