Sadie Robertson Huff Discusses Cancel Culture in Christianity: ‘Show People Grace’

Return of the duck dynasty star Sadie Robertson Hough is expressing her thoughts on cancel culture and how it has shaped her mission to inspire Christians to respond to disagreements with kindness instead of hostility. Her experience began with a TikTok video she and her sister Bella posted in 2024, where they were having fun line dancing to a Beyoncé country song. However, their lighthearted clip was met with unexpected criticism from some within their own religious community.

According to Hough, much of the backlash seemed to stem from Christians themselves.

“It’s troubling to see youth pastors telling their students they need to unfollow them,” she said. “That sets a really poor example. It makes you wonder how I could stand up on stage afterward and address this.”

She noted that this experience was quite revealing for her. “I honestly believed I hadn’t done anything wrong, but then I saw the reaction. It’s alarming to think about how often we might fail. God forbid we seem human,” she added.

As a prominent figure with the A&E series and her own podcast, Hough is vocalizing her commitment to fostering change in the church.

“Church should be a refuge where we can confess our struggles without fear of judgment,” she remarked. “What should be a safe space is often tainted by criticism. Do people really embrace love? Here I was, unaware of anything wrong, yet suddenly caught up in cancel culture. It’s not just the culture out there—it’s happening within the church, too.”

She pointed out that instead of using social media to promote unity, many Christians are inadvertently creating division and animosity.

“While we do have a responsibility to each other, it’s crucial to believe the best in others,” she stated. “We need to extend grace and encouragement rather than seeking to appease everyone.”

Citing a Bible verse, Robertson remarked that love finds no pleasure in wrongdoing.

“Love celebrates the truth and goodness. Sometimes it feels like, on social media, people actually take joy when someone else stumbles or fails,” she expressed. “Our video sparked some valuable discussions. Even if the circumstances were unfortunate, the end result was a positive conversation. It’s important for us to harness social media’s potential for good.”

First publication date is October 29, 2025.
