Sen. Chuck Grassley Reveals More Details on FBI Subpoenas

WASHINGTON — On Wednesday, Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) disclosed new FBI documents indicating that a significant number of Republican groups and individuals were targeted in what he described as a “fishing expedition” led by Special Counsel Jack Smith.

During a press conference with fellow Republican senators, Grassley announced that he would make public 197 subpoenas that Smith had issued as part of the Arctic Frost investigation. He claimed this investigation was essentially a means for FBI agents and Justice Department prosecutors to conduct an unlawful probe into the entire Republican political landscape.

“I received legally protected whistleblower information,” he stated. “Jack Smith and his team issued 197 subpoenas to 163 entities, which included 34 individuals and financial institutions.”

Grassley pointed out that the subpoenas sought information related to over 430 individuals and organizations, all seemingly aimed at Republicans. He specifically mentioned that requests were made to Turning Point USA, the organization founded by late conservative figure Charlie Kirk, as well as the Republican Bar Association.

The senator also noted that Smith’s investigation revealed subpoenas targeting unnamed individuals for communications with media outlets like CBS, Fox News, Fox Business, Newsmax, and Sinclair.

“Some subpoenas requested statistical data and analysis concerning donors and fundraising efforts,” he remarked, emphasizing that this contradicted Smith’s public assertions, which he deemed a fishing expedition.

Grassley expressed frustration, stating, “If this were happening to Democrats, they would understandably be just as outraged as we are.”

This investigation has led to four charges against former President Trump related to his efforts to contest the 2020 election, a situation that escalated into the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot.

Previously, Grassley had made FBI records public showing that at least nine Republican members of Congress had their phone records requested by Smith’s team.

“Arctic Frost is Joe Biden’s Watergate,” remarked Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas), who was one of the Republicans whose phone metadata was seized.
