Jeter Chats with Betts Before World Series Showdown
Baseball Hall of Famer Derek Jeter has a unique perspective on celebrating victories on the field, especially after winning a World Series title. In a conversation with Mookie Betts, star player for the Los Angeles Dodgers and former Boston Red Sox player, Jeter inquired about Betts’ championship rings as they prepared for Game 5 of the 2025 World Series.
“How many rings do you have?” Jeter asked, to which Betts replied, “Three.” Jeter, in a light-hearted tone, joked, “Two and a half years?” Betts laughed, and Jeter quickly added, “I’m just playing. Dodgers fans, it’s just a joke among friends.”
Jeter, who wore the Yankees cap as their captain during his illustrious career, has five World Series rings. After winning his last title with the Dodgers, Betts is eager to narrow the gap and match Jeter’s impressive total.
The playoffs have undergone changes since 2020, where the COVID-19 pandemic led to a condensed 60-game schedule, expanding the playoff teams from twelve to sixteen. Neutral sites have also become part of postseason play after earlier rounds.
The 2020 World Series, held at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, saw the Dodgers take a record eighteen games to win the Commissioner’s Trophy against the Tampa Bay Rays.
In more recent news, the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Dodgers 6-1 in Game 5, taking a 3-2 lead in the series. The next showdown will be in Toronto for Game 6 on Friday. A win would mean the Blue Jays claim their third World Series title, their first since 1993. On the other hand, if the Dodgers pull off a win, the series will head to a decisive Game 7, keeping their hopes for a consecutive championship alive.
