Jon Bon Jovi’s Vocal Cord Injury Nearly Ended His Music Career

Jon Bon Jovi faced a serious injury to his vocal cords that almost led him to quit music entirely. The iconic musician shared that a surgical procedure eventually turned things around for him.

During a recent podcast, he reflected on a challenging 15-date tour where he realized things weren’t going as they should. After the final performance, he casually told his wife it went “pretty good,” but she had a different take. Bon Jovi recalled reaching a moment of doubt, saying, “I don’t think I can do this anymore. I don’t know why, but I really wouldn’t mind stepping away. I can’t take my legacy with me.”

He sought help from a surgeon who revealed that one of his vocal cords was deteriorating. “I was on the verge of death,” he described. The operation involved an implant to help close his vocal cords properly, which made singing again possible.

Recalling the moment he realized something was wrong, he mentioned, “He promised me nothing except that if I worked hard, I would be better than I was that night in Nashville.” However, Bon Jovi admitted that he would have reconsidered if he had known it would take over three years to heal. Yet, he maintained his belief in the healing process.

Now feeling “well enough” to perform again, Bon Jovi has announced the “Forever Tour,” marking his return to the stage after a hiatus since 2022. He emphasized that his motivations for performing have shifted; it’s not about the applause, money, or fame anymore. He expressed a desire to experience the joy of performing even if it might be a final tour. “I don’t think this is a farewell tour. But if it is, just know that those shows will be filled with joy,” he said.

Bon Jovi is also gearing up for the release of the collaboration album “Forever (Legendary Edition),” featuring artists like Bruce Springsteen and Avril Lavigne, which is set for October 24th. The “Forever Tour” will kick off on July 7, 2026, at Madison Square Garden and conclude on September 4, 2026, at Wembley Stadium in London.
