Former Biden Press Secretary Admits Limited Meetings with President

Ian Sams, who served as press secretary to then-President Joe Biden, acknowledged on social media that he only met Biden one to five times during his two years in the role. This statement contradicted his earlier claims in an MSNBC interview, where he described Biden as “sharp” on a daily basis.

In a July 2024 interview, Sams had commented positively on Biden’s sharp questioning skills, saying, “When I interact with him, he asks sharp, tough questions.” However, when probed by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee about his interactions with Biden, Sams responded, “I had very little interaction with Mr. Biden,” admitting to “several” meetings, most of which were brief and conducted online or over the phone.

Sams recalled just two in-person encounters with the former president. During the hearing, he was asked if his earlier statements on Biden’s mental acuity were based on that limited number of meetings. He confirmed that they were, but defended his remarks, insisting they accurately reflected his personal interactions.

Despite admitting to a limited connection, Sams insisted that he noticed no significant decline in Biden’s capability to perform presidential duties. He said, “I was talking about my interactions with him,” countering claims that his testimony might be misleading due to the infrequency of their meetings.

Republicans on the Oversight Committee pointed out the contradiction between his claims and the reality of their interactions. They suggested that Sams was misrepresenting the frequency of his meetings with Biden, implying he was trying to conceal the president’s decline.

Committee Chairman James Comer commented on social media, remarking on Sams’s admission that, despite meeting with Biden only twice in two years, he continued to assert that Biden was “right for the job.” He further stated that this situation could be seen as an attempt to read from a script prepared by someone else.

Comer argued that Biden’s presidency represented a significant political scandal, alleging that his team took steps to mislead the public regarding his capability as president. He called for a thorough investigation into the actions of Biden’s aides and their role in maintaining the illusion of presidential authority during Biden’s gradual decline.

Fox News Digital attempted to contact Sams for comments, but received no immediate response.
