Jon Stewart Challenges Kamala Harris on Campaign Length
During a recent episode of “The Weekly Show with Jon Stewart,” comedian Jon Stewart expressed his disagreement with former Vice President Kamala Harris’s assertion that her brief campaign duration contributed to her 2024 presidential election loss.
Harris, following the release of her memoir “107 Days,” has been discussing her unsuccessful campaign, which she attributes to the mere 107 days that passed after former President Joe Biden stepped down on July 21, 2024, to endorse her. Stewart, on his podcast, suggested that a shorter campaign might have actually benefited her chances of winning.
“I believe one of the significant factors was simply not having enough time,” Harris remarked, adding, “We didn’t have enough time.”
Stewart countered her point by stating, “Or did it take too long? If we held the election 60 days later, I genuinely think we would have won. There seemed to be a plateau.” He pointed out the fluctuating nature of her campaign’s momentum.
The race remained tight until its final stages, with Harris peaking midway through the campaign.
Latter, she acknowledged that misinformation played a part in her defeat, particularly citing the disinformation from President Donald Trump’s campaign.
One specific instance she referred to involved ads from Trump’s campaign that misrepresented her stance on providing transgender prisoners with gender-reassignment surgeries. “He’s spent tens of millions trying to bombard me with disinformation,” she said, emphasizing the irony given the policies Trump supports.
At a 2019 press conference, Harris explained her efforts to facilitate such surgeries for prisoners at taxpayer expense and extend this support to transgender undocumented immigrants. Reports showed that she received backing from the American Civil Liberties Union during her 2020 presidential campaign.
