AI Humanoid NEO Set for 2026 Release
An intriguing AI humanoid robot, named NEO, is on the horizon, courtesy of a California tech company. This robot, standing at 5 feet 6 inches, aims to ease everyday tasks, albeit at a hefty price point. The expected launch in the U.S. is slated for early 2026. Interested buyers can opt for a monthly subscription of $499 or make a one-time purchase for $20,000—quite an investment for a robotic assistant.
Interestingly, customers can also select the color of their NEO, choosing from tan, gray, or dark brown shades.
Bernt Børnich, CEO and founder of 1X Technologies, remarked, “Humanoids were once considered science fiction. Now, with NEO’s launch, they’re a tangible product.” He continued, “NEO bridges the gap between our imaginations and reality, enabling us to seek assistance from humanoid robots.”
Pre-orders for NEO kick off this week, requiring a $200 deposit from eager individuals.
This quirky robot is designed to handle various functions, such as opening doors for guests, retrieving items, and turning off lights at night. It’s worth noting that the robot’s capabilities are expected to improve through regular software updates.
With a feature dubbed “Housework,” users can assign specific tasks to NEO and set designated times for them. It’s all about efficiency, right?
Owners of NEO will also have the option to monitor the robot’s performance via a smartphone app.
Equipped with a built-in facial camera, NEO is designed to comprehend its surroundings and tackle new tasks. When it encounters challenges it can’t manage, users can schedule appointments with a 1X expert for assistance in guiding the robot.
NEO benefits from advanced audio and visual intelligence, which aids in recognizing and responding to verbal commands. This feature enhances interactions, as NEO can identify ingredients, suggest recipes, and evolve its responses over time.
As news of this somewhat unnerving but potentially helpful robot spread, public reactions have been quite mixed. One enthusiastic customer shared, “I ordered it! I can’t wait to try out NEO’s Fully Autonomous Mode and see how it performs!” Conversely, another voice expressed concern, questioning, “What if it gets mad and harms you in your sleep?”
