Glamor UK Faces Backlash for Trans Women of the Year Selection
Glamor UK has announced its choice for the 2025 Women of the Year, which includes a group of trans women, sparking criticism from author JK Rowling. Rowling, known for her strong opinions on transgender matters, expressed that this recognition sends an inappropriate message to young girls.
The magazine described these nine trans women, dubbed “The Dolls,” as individuals who are “working tirelessly to empower, uplift and celebrate trans voices.”
Rowling took to social media to voice her concerns. She reflected on her upbringing when women’s magazines promoted the idea that girls should conform to certain beauty standards. In contrast, she argues, today’s mainstream publications suggest that “men are better women than them.”
Rowling’s criticisms didn’t end there; she was joined by British rapper Zubby, who labeled the trans movement as one of the most misogynistic in recent history. He expressed agreement with Rowling, condemning those who praised the magazine’s cover.
Adding to the chorus of dissent, Oli London, another public figure who has openly critiqued the trans community, also condemned Glamor UK’s decision.
Glamor magazine’s recent choices have led to broader criticism, including previous selections like actress Rachel Zegler and YouTuber Rachel, who faced backlash following their remarks related to the conflict in Gaza.
Zegler stirred controversy with comments supporting Palestine shortly after a trailer release for her Disney film. Reports indicated tension between her and Israeli co-star Gal Gadot regarding differing views on the dispute.
Meanwhile, Rachel Griffin Accurso, known for her advocacy concerning the plight of children in Gaza, has faced scrutiny that led to calls for an investigation into her potential ties with Hamas.
