Former NBA Player Kyle Singler Arrested on Assault Charges
Ex-NBA player Kyle Singler, known for his time at Duke University, was arrested in Oklahoma on Tuesday following allegations from his girlfriend. She accused him of engaging in inappropriate behavior in front of their young child.
The 37-year-old was taken to the Haskell County Jail, facing a misdemeanor charge of assault and battery in front of a child.
Authorities reported that a 911 call was made after a witness observed Singler chasing a woman outside a residence in Whitefield. Allegations state that he grabbed her by the head and pushed her down.
According to Deputy Mitch Dobbs, there were visible marks on the woman’s face and arms. The victim informed officers that Singler is the father of their child, who was also present during the incident.
Reports indicate that Singler, a national champion with Duke in 2010, was uncooperative during the arrest and appeared to be under the influence of drugs.
After spending some time in custody, he was released on bail set at $6,000. Additionally, his former agent has confirmed that he no longer represents Singler.
Compounding his legal troubles, Singler’s issues follow a troubling social media post from almost a year ago. In that video, he expressed fear for his life, describing experiences of mistreatment and neglect. He claimed to be perceived as a troublemaker within his community while trying to be helpful.
Several NBA peers voiced concern after viewing the video.
Singler was selected in the second round of the 2011 NBA Draft by the Detroit Pistons. He played with the Pistons for several seasons before being traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder during the 2014-15 season, where he remained until the 2017-18 season, after which he did not return to the NBA.
