Halloween Celebration at the White House
On Thursday, President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump embraced the Halloween spirit at the White House.
The annual event took place on the South Lawn, welcoming thousands of trick-or-treaters of all ages. Children along with their parents enjoyed a variety of trick-or-treat booths and fall decorations, including scattered leaves and numerous jack-o-lanterns.
During the festivities, the President and First Lady handed out commemorative candy on South Drive. According to the White House press release, the U.S. Air Force Strolling Strings provided a musical backdrop, performing a mix of traditional Halloween tunes and contemporary songs.
Visitors could also participate in a “BE BEST” postcard station sponsored by the U.S. Postal Service, which included a toy mail truck—kind of a fun addition, I guess.
The Department of Agriculture showcased large pumpkins and distributed mini pumpkins cultivated by U.S. farmers. Meanwhile, the National Confectionery Association contributed sweet treats, while apples were brought in by the International Fresh Produce Association from Washington and New York.
Excitement at the Festivities
The event also included contributions from a number of organizations such as America 250, NASA, the National Park Service, the U.S. Mint, the Secret Service, and others. They all came together to contribute to the welcoming atmosphere of the celebration.
The First Lady’s office even shared a glimpse of the White House’s spooky decorations on social media, teasing, “preparing for Halloween.” They also posted nostalgic photos from Halloween during the President’s first term.
The White House is known for its variety of annual traditions, right? The Easter Egg Roll and the National Christmas Tree Lighting are just a couple of examples. It seems like the First Lady is expected to continue decorating for the holiday season, transforming the White House with trees, wreaths, ornaments, lights, and all kinds of American-themed decorations.
