Unrivaled Season 2 Update

In a notable shift for Unrivaled’s second season, key players such as Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu, Sky forward Angel Reese, and Dream center Brittney Greiner will be missing from the roster.

The 3-on-3 basketball league, co-founded by Brianna Stewart and Napheesa Collier, announced on Thursday that Storm center Dominic Malonga, Sky guard Rebecca Allen, and Fever guard Aari McDonald will fill in these vacancies.

Interestingly, Malonga’s joining was announced just ten days after her former team, Fenerbahce, declared that she had ended her contract unilaterally, raising some eyebrows. They even hinted at possibly seeking compensation for damages due to her decision.

What does this mean for Malonga’s future in the WNBA? Well, her return depends on the approval from the Turkish federation, though reports suggest she doesn’t need to clear any hurdles to participate in Unrivaled.

Last month, Unrivaled revealed that they would scale up to an eight-club league, adding twelve new slots to their roster. This expansion could certainly shake things up a bit.

Interestingly, only two players from the 2025 Liberty—Stewart and Natasha Cloud—are set to compete in this season. It’s a bit of a shakeup, really, and it’s hard not to wonder how it’ll all affect team dynamics.

Nyara Sabally plans to focus on her rehab in Miami this offseason alongside her sister, Sato, who will also be playing in Unrivaled.

In terms of coaching, Liberty will have Andrew Wade, their director of player development, on the Miami sidelines. He’ll be joined by assistant coach Zach O’Brien, who’s gearing up for his debut in January.

Speaking of January, Unrivaled is set to kick off on January 5th. It’ll be interesting to see how everything unfolds.
