Reasons Kevin Durant is not interested in marriage

Houston Rockets superstar Kevin Durant recently shared his thoughts on marriage, indicating he’s not really interested in tying the knot. During an episode of Bobby Althoff’s podcast, he expressed uncertainty about whether he could commit to one person for life.

When discussing prenuptial agreements, Durant remarked, “It’s not just about the prenup; there’s still something to give if a breakup happens.” This line sparked some curiosity regarding his views on relationships.

He mentioned, “Divorce seems more realistic nowadays with the high rates, and though I think about forever, I’m not sure if I’m ready for those odds.” It’s interesting how he views marriage versus companionship; he seems to value the idea of spending time with someone daily without the traditional labels or pressures that come with them.

In fact, he admitted, “I never really imagined myself having a wedding… I think weddings are nice, sure, and can be great events, but it’s not something I aspire to.” There’s a sort of disconnect in his perspective—appreciating the event but not really feeling it’s necessary for him personally.

Still, he’s not completely shutting the door on marriage. “Maybe one day,” Durant mused, “but I’m not as fixed on it as some may expect.” This openness hints at a level of curiosity, perhaps even ambivalence, about future possibilities without making any commitments.

Durant previously noted that while he thought he was close to marriage at one point, he’s not actively seeking anything serious now. “I prefer someone I can chill with and have genuine conversations, rather than getting wrapped up in titles and expectations,” he said, alluding to the pressures that often accompany labels like “girlfriend” or “boyfriend.” He appreciates a more relaxed dynamic, noting that sometimes, one doesn’t want to hang out consistently or talk all the time.

He also shared that he had lived with a partner before but they ended up parting ways to focus on themselves. “We figured things out separately but remained friends,” he recalled, indicating a positive approach to post-relationship dynamics.

Durant tends to keep his personal life under wraps, which makes these revelations a bit surprising. He did mention a past relationship with former WNBA player Monica Wright, whom he briefly dated after meeting in high school, though that ended relatively quickly. Wright is now married to another former basketball player, Michael Rodgers.
