Changes in Miami: Waddle’s Future in Question
With Chris Grier gaining traction again in Miami, there’s curiosity about who might take on significant roles moving forward.
One possible candidate is Jaylen Waddle. Reports suggest that with Grier no longer at the helm, the chances for a trade involving Waddle are increasing. Previously, Grier had firmly held onto Waddle, as he believed the Dolphins had potential for a turnaround.
Although various teams expressed interest in Waddle’s talent, Miami’s front office showed no inclination to part with him while Grier was making the calls.
Now, with shifts in the Dolphins’ management, things might open up for a trade. If Waddle does become available, the Giants seem like a logical landing spot, especially since they’ve recently lost two key players.
In late September, the Giants saw Malik Nabors suffer a season-ending ACL injury, leaving a noticeable gap on their offense. Adding to the challenges, rookie running back Cam Skatebo dislocated his ankle during a recent game, necessitating surgery and limiting him for the remainder of the season.
These injuries certainly leave the Giants in a tough spot; before Skatebo’s accident, reports indicated they were keen on acquiring a new wide receiver before the trade deadline.
Waddle has made his mark in the NFL, consistently rushing for over 1,000 yards in his first three seasons, hitting eight touchdowns in 2022 when the Dolphins made the playoffs. However, in the past couple of years, as the team has struggled, Waddle’s production has declined—recording just 744 yards and two touchdowns in 2024, and this season so far, tallying 586 yards and four touchdowns across nine games.
With a fresh offensive strategy and a different quarterback, perhaps Waddle could rediscover his rhythm. That said, the Giants currently stand at 2-6, making it a challenging environment for fostering growth among receivers rather than pushing for a playoff spot.
