Nancy Mace reportedly scolded police with a profanity-filled outburst at a South Carolina airport

Incident at Charleston Airport Involving Rep. Nancy Mace

On Thursday, a notable incident unfolded at Charleston International Airport involving Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.). Reports indicate that Mace became quite upset, yelling and using profanity toward police officers who were attempting to escort her to her gate.

According to the incident report, two officers from the Charleston County Aviation Authority Police were waiting curbside for Mace, whose deputy was expected to arrive in a white BMW—though it never showed up. They received a heads-up about her arrival just 15 minutes after beginning their wait.

Shortly afterward, less than a minute later to be precise, the officers found Mace, described as “extremely agitated,” at the TSA crew entrance.

Details from the officers’ accounts reveal that throughout the escort, Mace was loud, swearing and making comments that were derogatory, clearly audible to others around. She appeared to be either texting or talking about her frustrations as they walked.

One officer recounted that Mace was quick to express anger, yelling and making claims about their incompetence. “She repeatedly said we were ‘totally incompetent’ and insisted that ‘this is not the way you should treat a U.S. representative,'” the officer noted.

During the walk to Gate B-8, her outbursts continued, and at the gate, Mace allegedly continued to berate the officers as they waited for her to board.

One officer mentioned that had anyone else behaved in a similar manner at the airport, the department would have intervened immediately due to the unacceptable conduct.

According to witnesses, Mace’s outburst left an American Airlines gate agent in disbelief, while a TSA supervisor remarked on her aggressive tone, noting it was reminiscent of comments made by some TSA officers.

Upon reviewing security footage, officers discovered that Mace was dropped off in a different colored BMW than initially expected.

In another part of this exchange, Mace is reported to have said, “Tim Scott would never be treated this badly,” referencing a fellow Republican senator from South Carolina.

Spokespersons for Mace’s office and her gubernatorial campaign did not immediately respond to inquiries regarding the incident.

Mace mentioned the incident on X, sharing posts that included a video of her airport arrival. In one tweet, she expressed,— “Breaking News: Nancy Mace has arrived at the airport without security. Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention!”

In response to Mace’s actions, South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson, who is also in the running against her for the Republican gubernatorial nomination, criticized her conduct, stating it was disrespectful to airport security personnel.

Wilson described her behavior as “unacceptable,” emphasizing that law enforcement and TSA agents work hard to protect the public and deserve respect. “This is not profanity, this is not intimidation, and this is not a tantrum,” he added in a statement.

In a rebuttal, Mace fired back on X, saying, “I wish Alan Wilson had spent as much time prosecuting philanderers as he did spying on me at the airport.”
