Kathy Hochul Faces Backlash for Zoran Mamdani Endorsement

Kathy Hochul, labeled by some as the “worst governor in America,” has come under significant criticism for endorsing Zoran Mamdani, a radical socialist running for mayor of New York. According to Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, Democrats are eager to see the unpopular incumbent ousted.

“We’ve heard from numerous Democrats who are unwilling to back Hochul and are looking forward to her removal next year,” Stefanik, a Republican from upstate New York, shared with the Post.

Stefanik further stated, “Hochul has aligned herself with the angry, anti-Semitic ‘defund the police’ faction that is causing chaos in New York City.” She described Mamdani as the leading candidate whose policies could make life more dangerous and unwelcoming for residents, claiming Hochul is responsible for this direction.

While there are concerns about the impact of a socialist win, Stefanik points out that it could potentially help Republicans in the forthcoming midterm elections. “This signals a complete socialist takeover in one of the world’s most crucial cities,” she observed, noting that this might affect Democratic candidates broadly.

Stefanik has not shied away from calling Hochul “the worst governor in America,” emphasizing that discontent with her spans the political spectrum—from the far left to the far right, including moderates. “New Yorkers won’t forget how she stood by those who express anti-Israel sentiments,” Stefanik remarked, referencing recent heckling directed at Hochul at a rally.

Looking ahead to 2026, Stefanik is expected to announce her candidacy for governor shortly after Election Day. Polling from the Manhattan Institute suggests she may narrowly outpace Hochul in a hypothetical matchup.

Insiders have suggested that Hochul’s endorsement of Mamdani was an attempt to appease the far-left ahead of a serious primary challenge next year. The governor is looking to solidify support from Mamdani, anticipating a run in the Democratic primary against Lieutenant Governor Antonio Delgado.

Mamdani’s campaign has yet to respond to inquiries, while Hochul’s team referred questions to state Democratic Party spokesperson Addison Dick, who criticized Stefanik for not addressing her failures while in Congress. “Governor Hochul is committed to serving New Yorkers, prioritizing healthcare, and enhancing community safety,” Dick asserted.
