New Jersey’s Gubernatorial Election Strategy

As the gubernatorial election approaches, Scott Pressler from Early Voting Action discussed the urgency of ensuring a strong turnout in New Jersey. The clash between Democrat Mikie Sherrill and Republican Jack Ciattarelli is set to happen soon.

Pressler spoke before a significant march to the polls in Monmouth County. “We’re going to help everyone get out and vote early. You might wonder why Monmouth County? Well, I’ve been to other key areas already,” he explained. He pointed out the need for Republicans to rally support, particularly to counter the influence of cities like Newark, Trenton, and Camden.

“Monmouth and Ocean counties need to see high turnout,” he emphasized, adding a word of caution to those feeling secure about their prospects. “Right now, Democrats have a 7,000-voter advantage in early voting. So make sure to vote this weekend; you have plenty of hours to cast your ballot,” he urged, referencing voting hours on both Saturday and Sunday.

Pressler articulated that this election represents a pivotal moment for the governor. “Too many people are saying things like, ‘If I don’t win, I’m moving.’ If you’re not excited to support Jack, think about the consequences of not voting, especially if Democrats keep imposing high property taxes. Many Republicans could end up leaving the state,” he warned.

He also stressed the vital importance of early voting for Republicans. This could shift media narratives, encouraging hesitant voters to recognize that their participation is crucial. “Psychologically, if Republicans show up early and narrow the gap, it will force the media to report it. On Election Day, we could see headlines about a Republican lead in early voting,” he stated.

Pressler concluded by highlighting the potential psychological boost for less active Republican voters. If they see that their votes matter, perhaps they will feel inspired to engage more actively in the electoral process.
