Incident at Louisiana Festival
Two young girls were taken to the hospital on Saturday after being thrown from a Ferris wheel at a festival in Louisiana, as reported by authorities.
The girls were enjoying the ride at the Harvest Festival on False River in New Roads around noon when, unexpectedly, their bucket tipped over. Witnesses were left stunned by the incident.
Point Coupee Parish Sheriff Rene Thibodeau mentioned that both girls, who are under 13 years old, were quickly transported to the hospital, with one needing to be airlifted to a medical facility.
Some alarming photos showed one girl appearing trapped in the vehicle while being rescued.
Witness Madison Fields described the moment, saying, “It got caught on a power line and tipped over, and two girls fell out.” She recalled hearing a loud thud, likening it to something heavy falling. “One of the girls landed face-first and seemed to be seriously hurt,” she added.
The event left Fields feeling shaken. “I was really sad and upset. I kept thinking, what if that had been me?”
Others who witnessed the event voiced their concerns over safety at the festival, pointing out the lack of seat belts on the Ferris wheel. “Honestly, a seat belt would be better because right now, it’s just a gate. If a child could open it, they could fall out just as easily,” Fields noted.
As for the girls’ conditions, details weren’t available immediately. Sheriff Thibodeau expressed the family’s uncertainty, stating, “The specifics regarding their injuries are unclear, but our thoughts and prayers are with them.”
Following an inspection, most rides at the venue were permitted to reopen, except for the Ferris wheel. The festival, which supports the local agriculture-focused community, took place from Friday to Sunday.
The Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office is currently investigating the situation.
