Collinsworth Jokes About Government Shutdown During NFL Game

Former Cincinnati Bengals player and NBC commentator Cris Collinsworth made light of the ongoing government shutdown while covering the Seattle Seahawks’ 38-14 victory over the Washington Commanders on Sunday night.

As the game transitioned from the third to the fourth quarter, viewers were shown images of the U.S. Capitol. Collinsworth remarked, “It’s a quiet place,” which elicited a chuckle from fellow commentator Mike Tirico.

The shutdown has now extended into its sixth week, with President Donald Trump expressing in a CBS interview that he believes Democrats will eventually concede to Republican demands since they are not currently negotiating.

“I think we have to do that,” Trump stated. “And if they don’t vote, that’s their problem.”

On the field, the Seahawks got off to a strong start, thanks in large part to quarterback Sam Darnold, who completed his first 17 passes. His first incompletion didn’t occur until the third quarter began. Darnold threw four touchdown passes in the first half alone, targeting Torrey Horton twice, along with Cody White and Elijah Arroyo. By halftime, Seattle had scored 28 points.

Finished with 21 completions out of 24 attempts for 330 passing yards, Darnold did throw an interception later in the game. Jackson Smith-Njiba stood out with eight receptions for 129 yards, while tight end AJ Varner added a rushing touchdown.

On the other side, Commanders’ quarterback Jayden Daniels exited the game early due to a serious arm injury. Before leaving, he had a 16 for 22 pass record with 153 yards and one interception, along with a rushing touchdown. Running back Chris Rodriguez also scored on a rush.

This season, the Seahawks concluded with a record of 5 wins and 2 losses, while Washington fell to 3-5.
