Trump Discusses Lawsuit Victory Against CBS in Recent Interview

In a recent interview on his show, President Donald Trump mentioned the lawsuit he won against CBS News and “60 Minutes,” revealing to host Norah O’Donnell that the network had to pay him “a lot of money.”

“The fact is, 60 Minutes paid me a lot of money. And I don’t want to embarrass you, and I’m sure you don’t either,” he said while acknowledging CBS News’ new editor-in-chief, Bari Weiss. “I think she’s a great new leader for your team. I don’t know her personally, but I’ve heard positive things.”

Trump further elaborated that “60 Minutes” was compelled to compensate him because of the poor quality of responses in a previous interview. This was linked to a segment featuring former Vice President Kamala Harris, which played a significant role in the lawsuit against the network.

This case originated from an interaction between Harris and “60 Minutes” correspondent Bill Whitaker, where she was questioned about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s reluctance to heed the Biden administration. Discrepancies in the airing of her answers led Trump and others to accuse the network of manipulating her responses for consistency.

CBS and its parent company, Paramount, agreed to a settlement earlier this year, amounting to $16 million, which would cover legal expenses and other contributions related to Trump’s presidential library, among other things.

This settlement has drawn criticism and led to speculations that the payment was a way for CBS to facilitate its $8 billion merger with Skydance Media.

During his conversation with O’Donnell, Trump conveyed optimism about changes in the media landscape. “I see good things happening in the news, and I really do,” he stated, highlighting Weiss’ role and the implications of new ownership at CBS.

However, Weiss’ appointment has sparked unease among progressive media figures due to her pro-Israel stance and critiques of liberal journalism.

Trump also took the opportunity to speak about New York City mayoral candidate Zoran Mamdani, labeling him a communist. When asked about the possibility of Mamdani winning, Trump reacted cautiously. “As president, donating a significant amount to New York would be challenging,” he remarked. “If communists are in charge, it feels like you’re just throwing money away. I honestly don’t like Cuomo, but if the choice is between a difficult Democrat and a communist, I’d choose the challenging Democrat any day.”
