Verdict in Baldoni’s Lawsuit Against Lively and Reynolds
A U.S. District Judge has officially closed Justin Baldoni’s $400 million lawsuit against actress Blake Lively and her husband Ryan Reynolds. Judge Louis Lehman ruled that Baldoni and his co-plaintiffs from Wayfarer Studios failed to file an amended complaint in time regarding their claims of defamation and extortion.
According to court documents, Judge Lehman attempted to reach out to all parties involved in mid-October, informing them of his decision to finalize the case. Interestingly, Lively was the only party to respond, and the judge approved her request to continue covering her attorney’s fees.
This ruling follows a series of setbacks for Baldoni. His January counterclaim and a separate $250 million defamation suit against the New York Times were both dismissed in June. It’s been a challenging road for him.
Baldoni and Lively previously collaborated on the film “It Ends With Us.” In December 2024, Lively accused Baldoni of sexual harassment and retaliation, prompting her to file a lawsuit. Baldoni, in response, accused Lively of assault and consistently denies all allegations made against him.
The case garnered significant attention, particularly when Baldoni’s legal team unexpectedly implicated Taylor Swift, claiming she and Reynolds pressured Baldoni regarding film rewrites. While the judge did grant Baldoni access to some messages exchanged between Swift and Lively, he initially tried to subpoena Swift but later abandoned that effort.
Lively’s case is set to be heard in court in March 2026, which keeps the ongoing legal battles alive for these high-profile figures.
