This past weekend, the Dodgers’ wives and girlfriends turned out to celebrate the team’s consecutive World Series title. One notable attendee was Mamiko Tanaka, the wife of the dual-threat star Shohei Ohtani.
On Saturday, both Freddie Freeman and Mookie Betts’ wives shared a group photo on Instagram, showcasing essential Dodgers players from their nail-biting 5-4 win over Toronto in Game 7.
Tanaka, who tied the knot with 31-year-old Ohtani—something that surprised many back in 2024—was seen in another photo alongside Chelsea Freeman and Brianna Betts, all donning custom Dodgers jackets with their husbands’ jersey numbers.
Chelsea captioned the picture, “My girls,” adding the hashtag “Big 3,” which felt kind of endearing.
As for Ohtani, he kicked off Game 7 only two years into his massive 10-year, $700 million deal with the Dodgers. He pitched for just 2 1/3 innings after a short rest, allowing three earned runs.
Meanwhile, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who pitched in Game 6, took home the World Series MVP award for his performance in the decisive game.
The Dodgers made history by becoming the first team to win back-to-back World Series titles since the Yankees clinched three in a row from 1998 to 2000.
Manager Dave Roberts expressed pride in their achievement, saying, “We’ve prepared something pretty special. What we’ve accomplished is pretty amazing. Whether this is a dynasty, that’s up for experts and fans to decide, but I’m quite pleased with how things are going.”
For Ohtani, this championship holds a particular significance as it’s his first since becoming a father.
In April, Tanaka revealed they welcomed their first child, a daughter. Ohtani took to Instagram to share his joy: “Welcome to the Otani family! I am so grateful to my loving wife for giving birth to our healthy and beautiful daughter. Also, a thank you to my parents for all the worry and concern.”
The couple tends to keep a low profile regarding their relationship, though Tanaka, a former basketball player in Japan, has been spotted supporting Ohtani at games and events lately.
