Trump Endorses Cuomo Ahead of NYC Mayoral Election

As New York prepares for a competitive mayoral election, former President Donald Trump has offered his support to Andrew Cuomo, the city’s ex-governor and independent candidate. This announcement came just before the polls open on November 4.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump emphasized the importance of preventing “communist” candidate Zoran Mamdani from winning, urging New Yorkers to cast their votes for Cuomo.

“If communist candidate Zoran Mamdani wins the New York City mayoral election, it is highly unlikely that I will donate the required minimum federal funds to my beloved first homeland, because as a communist, there is zero chance that this once-great city will succeed or even survive!”

Even with Cuomo running as an independent and Republican Curtis Sliwa still in the race, Trump made his stance clear: voting for Sliwa could inadvertently assist Mamdani.

“I’d much rather see a Democrat with a successful record of winning than a Communist with no experience and a record of complete and utter failure. He’s useless as a congressman, ranked at the bottom of the hierarchy, and potentially once again as mayor of the greatest city in the world, he has no chance of restoring it to its former glory!”

The former president added, “A vote for Curtis Sliwa (who looks much better without a beret!) is a vote for Mamdani. Whether you personally like Andrew Cuomo or not, you really don’t have a choice. You have to vote for him and hope he does a great job. He can do that; Mamdani doesn’t!”

As of Monday evening, prediction market Polymarket shows Mamdani with a 91% chance of winning, while Cuomo stands at just 9%. This situation suggests the potential for a close race, as both Cuomo and Sliwa mobilize their supporters against Mamdani.
