ICE Targets Dangerous Illegal Immigrants Over Halloween
During the Halloween weekend, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) ramped up its efforts to apprehend what officials describe as the “worst of the worst” among illegal immigrants, detaining individuals convicted of serious crimes, including sexual offenses and murder.
The Department of Homeland Security highlighted that around 70% of those arrested by ICE during these operations are illegal immigrants who face criminal charges or have previous convictions in the United States.
Among those arrested was Sisawang Kamboonhuan from Laos, who was apprehended in San Diego for having sexual relations with a minor. Nearby in Los Angeles, a Guatemalan national named Milton Rene Méndez-Arévalo was also taken into custody due to a kidnapping conviction.
More than 120 illegal immigrants were arrested in Houston alone. This included Hector Eugenio Ramirez Martínez, a Honduran man found guilty of inappropriate contact with a child, and Francisco Nava Garcia, who has a history of assaulting a family member.
ICE operations extended to other states as well. In Texas, Kunal Chhetri, an Indian national, was arrested for alien smuggling. In Florida, Lazaro Mateo Ruiz, a Cuban national with a murder conviction, was taken into custody, alongside Juan Gomez Gutierrez, a Colombian citizen tied to drug trafficking.
ICE also detained Juan Britorios from Mexico, who was convicted of heroin and cocaine charges in Tennessee.
In Illinois, a state known for its sanctuary policies, ICE arrested Brigidio Ovid Gómez García, a man from Guatemala previously convicted of domestic violence offenses.
DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin noted that the focus remains on removing serious criminals from communities, especially as some politicians push back against ICE’s enforcement actions.
She remarked, “President Trump and Secretary Noem activated ICE to remove the worst of the worst criminals from American society.” This affirmation aligns with ongoing debates about immigration enforcement strategies.
Amid recent protests regarding such enforcement tactics, Trump remarked that he believes the ICE raids are “not going far enough.” He emphasized that, even during challenging political times, ICE is committed to taking action against dangerous individuals, noting that while many Americans enjoyed the Halloween festivities, ICE was working to keep the streets safe by detaining individuals with serious legal issues.
