Jerry Jones Hints at Cowboys’ Trade Activity Ahead of Deadline
Jerry Jones has signaled that the Cowboys might be finalizing a deal as the NFL trade deadline approaches this Tuesday. However, he hasn’t shared specifics about what this deal involves during his recent interviews with Stephen A. Smith on SiriusXM or his appearance on ESPN.
“There’s a lot of activity happening in terms of trades. We’re definitely making some trades and potentially a few more by the deadline,” Jones mentioned, as reported by the Dallas Morning News. “I’ve put together one more deal and think I could probably manage two more. I hope you’ll read about them tomorrow once I submit the paperwork.”
The Cowboys’ owner remarked that these changes “will address some of our deficiencies.”
As of now, the Cowboys are sitting at second in a significantly weakened NFC East with a record of 3-4-1 ahead of their Monday night matchup against the Cardinals.
During another interview, Jones reiterated his hints about a potential trade, but he kept the details vague. “Details will be announced tomorrow,” he stated. “There’s a good chance we’ll have something to talk about then.”
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Cowboys are actively seeking a pass rusher before the 4 p.m. deadline.
Nevertheless, former Cowboys star Troy Aikman expressed skepticism about the effectiveness of acquiring just one player on defense. On ESPN, when asked if the Cowboys would be more competitive with just one new defenseman, he responded, “No, I don’t think so.” He added, “Micah Parsons would have certainly made a difference. Would that change their record that much? I’m not sure. He’s a game-changer, but I doubt they can bring in someone of his caliber since those types of trades are rare.”
Aikman continued, “I don’t know what the planned move is, or who it will involve. It would certainly be interesting to announce a trade, but I’m not going to disclose any names here.”
