Rep. Nancy Mace Criticizes Airport Security Following Incident
Representative Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) has expressed concerns about the security measures at Charleston International Airport (CHS) after a police report detailed a heated interaction between her and an officer last Thursday, which included some harsh remarks.
On a Monday morning appearance on FOX Business, Mace mentioned that the police officer failed to pick her up on time from the airport.
Mace, who is campaigning for governor in South Carolina, emphasized, “This is a serious issue; mediocrity in airport security and security violations cannot be tolerated.”
A police report revealed that officers were scheduled to meet her at the ticketing area around 6:30 a.m. EDT in a white BMW to escort her to the plane. However, by 6:35 a.m., they learned that Mace was running approximately 15 minutes late. Dispatchers later indicated she was at a designated Transportation Security Administration (TSA) crew entrance just before 7 a.m.
When officers arrived, the report states that Mace began shouting and making offensive comments, calling the officers “totally incompetent” and suggesting that the treatment she received was inadequate for a U.S. representative.
Mace boarded her flight to O’Hare International Airport shortly after 7:10 a.m. EDT, with the departure occurring around 7:30 a.m. EDT.
Later that morning, she took to social media, indicating that if CHS continues to provide false information, she would continue to “expose the lies.”
On Wednesday, a staff member notified security that Mace would be arriving at CHS in a silver BMW around 6:30 a.m. EDT. At 6:29 a.m., another employee advised the security guard that deputies would arrive shortly, with the officer recognizing the timing change just a few minutes later.
A follow-up message indicated that Mace was at the TSA entrance, to which another employee responded they were addressing the situation.
After Mace had boarded her flight, an agent informed the officer involved that she had been dropped off at the center door in a silver BMW.
In another exchange, a police officer remarked that the security staff had been prepared to welcome her upon arrival, but added, “I don’t know what happened.”
The Hill has reached out to CHS for a response regarding the incident.
