Commanders' Frankie Luvu faces one-game suspension

The NFL announced on Monday that it has suspended Washington Commanders linebacker Frankie Luv for one game due to his excessive use of hip-drop tackles throughout the season.

According to the league, Luv has violated safety rules multiple times, making his third hip-drop tackle during a game against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night.

Specifics from the league reference Rule 12, Section 2, Rule 18(a)(b), which outlines what constitutes a foul: using certain techniques to bring down a runner, like grabbing or wrapping them with both arms and lowering the body to make the tackle.

Luv has the option to appeal this suspension as per the collective bargaining agreement. Notably, he has faced two prior suspensions for similar infractions.

Currently, he is set to miss the Week 10 matchup against the Detroit Lions.

Luv, in his second year with the Commanders, had shown considerable promise last season, playing all 17 games and achieving 99 tackles, eight sacks, seven pass breakups, and one interception. So far this season, he has recorded 50 tackles, two sacks, two pass breakups, and one forced fumble across nine games.

The team has been struggling with injuries, and it was also reported that quarterback Jaden Daniels suffered a severe arm injury during Sunday’s game, which might sideline him for several weeks or longer.

At the moment, the Commanders hold a 3-6 record this season.
