Trade Announcement: Titans to Ravens
Veteran NFL pass rusher Dre’Mont Jones has openly expressed support for rookie Cam Ward of the Tennessee Titans, who was traded to the Baltimore Ravens on Monday.
Jones, who made the move from the Seattle Seahawks to the Titans in the offseason, had a rather brief stint in Tennessee, participating in only nine games. The trade was formally announced on Tuesday, just before the NFL’s trade deadline at 4 p.m. ET.
In a heartfelt message on social media, Jones reached out to Titans fans, sharing, “The NFL is too crazy lol. Thank you Titans family. I loved and appreciated my short time in Nashville too much. Cam is true too. Everyone give him time. He can be great!” He added, “I’m ready to be a Raven rocking purple and black!”
Ward has faced challenges in his first season as the starting quarterback, but it seems more like a case of needing time to adjust rather than a lack of skill. The Titans, who chose him as the No. 1 overall pick in the spring, saw him step into the starting role after Will Revis had a season-ending surgery.
This Heisman Trophy winner has racked up 1,760 passing yards, with five touchdown passes and six interceptions. Currently, the Titans are struggling with a record of 1-8 this season.
For Jones, his move to the Ravens could be timely, as the team appears to be in search of additional defensive aid, ranking 24th in points allowed. The Ravens managed to improve their standing to 3-5 with a recent victory over the Miami Dolphins.
So far this season, Jones has recorded 4.5 sacks and a total of 26 tackles.
