Trump Nominates Isaacman for NASA Administrator Again

On Tuesday, President Donald Trump revealed his intention to nominate Jared Isaacman as the administrator of NASA, after previously withdrawing that nomination.

Initially, Trump had nominated Isaacman, who is closely associated with Elon Musk, but retracted the nomination in May. His reasoning reportedly stemmed from concerns about Isaacman’s “pre-existing relationship” with Musk. This decision was followed by criticism from Musk after he left the administration, with insiders suggesting that Isaacman’s withdrawal played a role in Musk’s frustration.

Following Isaacman’s withdrawal, Sean Duffy stepped in as the interim administrator of NASA for several months. Trump commended Duffy’s performance in that role, sharing his thoughts on TruthSocial.

“Sean Duffy has done an outstanding job as interim administrator of NASA,” the President noted. He went on to describe Isaacman as having a deep passion for space, considerable astronaut experience, and a commitment to advancing space exploration, which he believes makes him an ideal candidate to lead NASA into a new era. He also extended congratulations to Isaacman and his family.

After Isaacman’s earlier nomination was withdrawn, some aides speculated that he had influenced Trump to rescind because of his political donations to the Democratic Party, as CNN reported.

Throughout the summer, Isaacman reportedly maintained communication with Trump. There were rumors about Duffy’s desire for the permanent role, and she expressed her interest directly to Trump, bypassing the usual channels—this apparently upset some staff members, although NASA and Duffy’s representatives refuted these claims.

In October, Musk publicly criticized Duffy, labeling him as “Sean dummy” and alleging that he was undermining NASA through multiple posts on X.

Musk even questioned whether Duffy, who is known for a notable achievement in lumberjacking, should lead the nation’s space program, suggesting it was an odd fit.
