Blakeman Set to Retain Position as Nassau County Executive

Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman appears likely to secure re-election, despite pushback from his Democratic challenger, County Councilman Seth Koslow.

As of late Tuesday night, Blakeman led with a 50.2% approval rating, while Koslow trailed at 43.7%, per results from the county election board.

A win for Blakeman, a Republican, would bring an end to a contentious campaign that focused on topics like public safety, property taxes, and the county’s contentious alliance with Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Blakeman, who first took office in 2021, aligns himself with former President Trump and campaigned on a pro-law enforcement platform.

In his role, Blakeman took action against local sanctuary policies, forging a partnership with federal immigration authorities to house ICE detainees in county jails.

The incumbent gained additional momentum from Trump, who labeled him “America’s first patriot” in a post on Truth Social.

“Mr. Bruce has been with us since the beginning and is 100% MAGA,” Trump stated, praising Blakeman’s commitment to law enforcement and his efforts to secure the border.

Blakeman previously unseated Democrat Laura Curran, marking the first time the county executive position shifted to Republican control since 2017.

As part of his partnership with the Trump administration, 10 Nassau detectives are assigned to collaborate with ICE in efforts to apprehend undocumented immigrants.

“We are fortunate to have President Trump’s support in our fight for border protection and combating drug cartels that harm our children,” Blakeman remarked after the endorsement.
