Jewish FDNY fire commissioner resigns the day after the election of anti-Israel Zohran Mamdani as NYC mayor.

New York City’s Jewish Fire Commissioner, Robert Tucker, submitted his resignation on Wednesday, following the election of anti-Israel mayor-elect Zoran Mamdani, as reported by the Post.

Tucker, who is a Jewish philanthropist and businessman, plans to leave his position after more than a year in office on December 19. Sources close to him indicated he will return to managing T&M, the private security firm he founded before joining Mayor Eric Adams’ team.

His resignation comes as top FDNY officials were set to travel to Israel to meet with the nation’s fire chief, which adds some context to the situation. However, the reasons behind Tucker’s resignation remain unclear, and attempts to reach him for a comment have been made.

Tucker has served as the FDNY’s 35th commissioner since August 2024, taking over from Laura Kavanaugh, whose time in the role was quite controversial. Mayor Adams had previously spoken highly of Tucker, stating that he brought extensive public safety experience and solid connections within the FDNY.

At 55, Tucker established T&M in 1999 and has a background as a special assistant in the Queens District Attorney’s Office. He is also active in various charitable efforts, including his role as secretary of the FDNY Foundation, and has received recognition from organizations such as the New York City Board of Rabbis and Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York City.

His Jewish faith was notably represented during his oath-taking ceremony, where his father held a copy of the Tanakh, marking a significant personal touch that resonated with many. The Bible used was even reported to be the same one from his bar mitzvah.

As of now, there has been no comment from City Hall regarding the matter.
