Titans won't assist Patriots at trade deadline because of issues with Mike Vrabel

Titans Owner Reluctant to Help Former Coach Mike Vrabel

Offering good wishes to their former executives is one thing, but Titans owner Amy Adams Strunk apparently isn’t keen on extending any further support to enhance their success. Reportedly, she wasn’t open to trading for Mike Vrabel, the ex-Titans head coach who currently leads the Patriots, after their unexpected parting following the 2023 season.

The Titans, who find themselves at the bottom of the league standings, made two trades before the deadline, yet neither deal involved the AFC East-leading Patriots, as noted by sources.

Interestingly, there’s some chatter around the league suggesting that Tennessee might hesitate to sign with New England because Strunk seems preoccupied with her past relationship with Vrabel, showing no intention of facilitating his transition to a competitive environment.

The split with Vrabel, following the 2023 season, was genuinely surprising. He ended on a low note with the Titans but had previously led them to notable successes, including multiple playoff appearances and a top seed in the 2021 playoffs.

A curious incident occurred when Vrabel attended the Patriots Hall of Fame ceremony during the Titans’ bye week in 2023, which raised a few eyebrows across the league.

Reports suggest that Strunk’s actions might have exacerbated the situation, hinting that factors such as her previous pursuit of a Hall of Fame career and her failure to address internal rumors surrounding the coaching position influenced decisions moving forward.

Now, after a year away, Vrabel has stepped in as the head coach of a promising Patriots team, boasting a strong 7-2 record, which, remarkably, ties for one of the best in league history.

As New England contemplates strengthening its team to contend in the AFC East, the Titans appear to be in a position to assist, with available players as they look toward future improvements. Recently, Tennessee traded cornerback Roger McCreary to the Rams and pass rusher Doremon Jones to the Ravens, but they chose to refrain from engaging with the Patriots.

On the other hand, while the Patriots moved safety Kyle Dugger to the Steelers, they didn’t acquire any new reinforcements. Rumors had circulated about New England’s interest in bolstering their running back situation, with Titans veteran Tony Pollard being a likely candidate. However, it seems Pollard is set to complete his season in Tennessee.

This weekend, the Patriots are gearing up to face the NFC South-leading Buccaneers, while the Titans, currently at 1-8, aim to maintain their position by hosting the Texans.
