Fire Commissioner Robert Tucker Resigns
Fire Commissioner Robert Tucker of New York City will resign next month, which he announced just a day after Zoran Mamdani was elected as the city’s next mayor. Tucker plans to stay in his position until December 19 to ensure a smooth transition for the department. Mamdani is set to take office on January 1, 2026.
“Serving as the 35th New York City Fire Chief has been a remarkable honor,” Tucker stated. He acknowledged Mayor Adams for the trust placed in him and mentioned how the department has supported firefighters in making fire-related deaths reach historic lows.
Mayor Eric Adams expressed his appreciation for Tucker’s leadership, highlighting his passion and dedication to public safety. “When I appointed Secretary Tucker, I knew he had the experience and enthusiasm to protect our city and support the heroes who risk their lives daily,” Adams remarked.
Adams concluded, “We are extremely grateful for Secretary Tucker’s efforts and look forward to seeing what he does next.”
Tucker, originally from Manhattan, holds degrees from George Washington University and Pace University School of Law, according to his biography.
