Drew Brees Joins Fox Sports as Game Analyst
Former NFL quarterback Drew Brees is set to become a game analyst for Fox Sports after spending a season at NBC. Recent reports suggest that this shift may indicate the end of Mark Sanchez’s tenure at the network, especially following his recent arrest.
Mark Sanchez, the ex-Jets quarterback, has not been on air since October 4 when he was involved in a violent altercation with an elderly driver in Indianapolis. The incident left Sanchez stabbed and his driver—who alleged that Sanchez was the aggressor—hospitalized. Sanchez now faces charges, including assault and public intoxication, with a trial scheduled for December 11.
Brees, who achieved Super Bowl success with the New Orleans Saints, is expected to begin his new role with Fox on the following Sunday. While it’s not clear which games he will cover, he will likely work alongside play-by-play announcer Adam Amin, who previously partnered with Sanchez.
Having played for 20 seasons in the NFL, mostly with the Saints, Brees wrapped up his career in early 2021. After that, he joined NBC Sports as an analyst for “Football Night in America” but only held that position for one season.
During his time at NBC, Brees faced criticism, particularly regarding his performance in a playoff game between the Bengals and the Raiders, which led to questions about his future with the network. In a social media post, he mentioned being undecided about his next steps, suggesting a variety of possibilities, from focusing on philanthropy to coaching his kids.
The specifics of Brees’s contract with Fox are somewhat unclear, but reports state that he will serve as an analyst for the rest of the year and has a commitment to calling games through at least the next season.
