Erica Kirk Reflects on Her Husband’s Death
Erica Kirk, the widow of Charlie Kirk, shared her emotional journey in an interview with Jesse Watters, discussing how she has been coping since her husband’s assassination. Notably, she revealed that she has chosen not to watch the video of that tragic event.
“I have never seen that video and I never will,” Erica stated. “Some things leave a permanent mark on your soul. I never want to see the public assassination of my husband, and I certainly don’t want my children to see it.”
The night before Charlie was killed, Erica and their daughter spent the night together, while Charlie opted to sleep in their daughter’s room, as Erica urged him to rest well for his lecture the next day.
“That night, he was so excited, saying, ‘I can’t wait, it’s going to be the best thing,'” Erica recalled. The following morning, she shared what turned out to be her last moments with him. “He came in, grabbed his wedding ring and necklace, and left. I didn’t even get to kiss him goodbye,” she mentioned during a special segment of “Jesse Watters Prime Time,” titled “Erica Kirk: In Her Own Words.”
Charlie stayed that day in Arizona to care for his ailing mother, and Erica pleaded with him to remain home instead. “I need you at home. Home needs you, please stay home,” she explained.
Later, while at the doctor’s office, Erica watched a video of Charlie throwing his hat to the crowd during an event at Utah Valley University. A stark contrast followed when she received a shocking call about the incident. “I’ll never forget; it was like he had been shot,” she remembered, collapsing outside the treatment center when the news hit her.
Charlie was fatally wounded by a shot from a rifle shortly after noon local time. For Erica, the aftermath felt like entering an “unbelievable nightmare.” She continues to fight for her husband’s legacy and has been vocal about public access during the trial of his suspected assassin.
Reflecting on their safety conversations, Erica mentioned how they sometimes had heated discussions. “I suggested he wear a vest,” she noted. Although Charlie acknowledged her concerns, he had a fearless outlook, stating, “If they’re going to get me, they’re going to get me.”
Upon arriving in Utah, Erica was eager to see Charlie, but a police officer advised her to wait, warning her about the condition of his body. She firmly declined, saying, “I want to see what they did to my husband, and I also want to kiss him because I couldn’t this morning.”
When she finally saw Charlie, she noted, “He looked so lifeless.” But she expressed relief that he appeared at peace, recounting that he had a slight grin. This image resonated deeply, as Erica felt it captured his spirit. “You thought you could stop what I created by killing me. You took my body; you didn’t take my soul,” she asserted, determined to keep his vision alive.
Erica Kirk was later honored with the first Charlie Kirk Legacy Award at a recent event, continuing to uphold her husband’s mission and influence.
