Marshawn Kneeland of the Cowboys Passes Away at 24

The Dallas Cowboys have confirmed the unfortunate passing of defensive end Marshawn Kneeland at the age of 24. The team announced the news early Thursday morning.

Kneeland, who died Wednesday night, had his agent, John Pursley, share a statement regarding the tragedy. The specific cause of death remains unknown at this time.

Selected in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, Kneeland recently participated in 17 snaps during the Cowboys’ loss to the Cardinals on Monday night, where he notably scored a touchdown on a blocked punt.

“The Dallas Cowboys are deeply saddened by the tragic passing of Marshawn Kneeland this morning. Marshawn was a beloved teammate and member of our organization. Our thoughts and prayers are with his girlfriend, Katarina, and his family,” the team expressed in a statement.

The NFL also weighed in, stating, “We are deeply saddened by the tragic news of the passing of Marshawn Kneeland of the Cowboys. Our thoughts and prayers are with his girlfriend Catalina, family, friends, and his teammates. We have been in contact with the Cowboys and have provided support and counseling resources.”

Kneeland gained prominence at Godwin Heights High School in Wyoming, Michigan, before accumulating 13 sacks at Western Michigan between 2019 and 2023. In his rookie season, he played in 11 games and took the field in seven games this year, making one sack.

Pursley shared his reflections on Kneeland’s journey, saying, “I watched him go from a hopeful kid with dreams at Western Michigan University to a respected professional with the Dallas Cowboys. Marshawn poured his heart into every snap, every practice, and every moment on the field. Losing someone of his talent, spirit, and goodness is an indescribable pain.” He further expressed his heartache for Kneeland’s family and friends, urging everyone to respect their privacy during this challenging time.

This is an evolving story.
