A transgender man involved in a fight at a gym bathroom in Los Angeles was convicted of assaulting his wife. She, who lived as a man in Ohio, later adopted her first name as his own.
Alexis Black has accused some women, including singer-songwriter Tish Hyman, of harassing her and exposing themselves in the locker room during a confrontation at a Beverly Hills gym.
Black, who was previously known as Grant Freeman, admitted in 2022 to seriously injuring his wife, Alexis Freeman, resulting in a compound fracture of her jaw.
According to court documents from Hamilton County, Ohio, “Kyle Grant Freeman caused serious bodily harm to the victim, who had a compound fracture of his lower jaw requiring surgery.”
Black received a one-year prison sentence, subtracting time already served.
Records indicate that Black has a history of domestic violence and drug trafficking convictions, along with several other pending charges, including resisting arrest.
Video of a heated exchange between Hyman and Black gained traction online after Hyman accused a transgender person of exposing himself and harassing women in the locker room.
Black recently responded after Hyman, who identifies as lesbian, claimed she was expelled from the former Gold’s Gym in Beverly Hills for confronting someone in the women’s locker room.
This shouting match quickly went viral when Hyman, who has about 100,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, accused the transgender gym-goer of inappropriate behavior in the locker room.
Currently transitioning, Black has denied these accusations, asserting to TMZ that they were fully interviewed and insisted that no inappropriate actions occurred before the altercation that was filmed.
“The truth is far from what she claims. Whenever she’s confronted, I’ve often been supported by women in the locker room because of her aggressive behavior towards me,” Black remarked.
“I know I’m a woman.”
Freeman, Hyman, and Alexis Freeman did not reply to requests for comments. EōS Fitness, which has taken over the site of the former Gold’s Gym, has not discussed the incident.
