Charlamagne tha God Urges Democrats to Open the Government
Left-leaning radio personality Charlamagne tha God has called on newly elected Democratic lawmakers to take action to reopen the government. On his show, he pointed out that Democrats share the blame for the ongoing government shutdown.
“Democrats, you had a great night last night,” Charlamagne said during the broadcast. “Health insurance premiums are already climbing and set for the year, so let’s move forward. We appreciate the effort, but really, people have bills to pay—rent, childcare, utilities, car payments.”
He expressed concern for federal workers who have missed two paychecks, emphasizing that many live paycheck to paycheck. “For those not receiving SNAP benefits, it’s time to get the government running again,” he added. “I don’t care who’s to blame. Let’s stop playing politics with people’s lives.”
Charlamagne further urged Democrats to act quickly, noting that people’s insurance costs are rising and that they’ve already missed crucial paychecks. “It’s understandable that they’re worried about high premiums, but right now, people can’t pay their rent,” he emphasized.
He reiterated the need to end the political impasse, suggesting that as long as the government remains closed, the ongoing debates over healthcare will keep dragging on.
Recently, Charlamagne also mentioned that, for a socialist candidate to take over the Democratic Party, there needs to be a complete overhaul of the current leadership. “Democratic leaders wouldn’t support anyone who threatens the capitalist system. But honestly, the current system isn’t cutting it,” he remarked on The Daily Show last week.
He highlighted a growing readiness among people to take collective action. “If we channel this energy, we can drive real change,” he said. “If Democrats can’t lead, we’ll step up with protests, boycotts, sit-ins, and even national strikes. Maybe it’s time for the current leadership to step aside and let someone else take a shot,” he concluded.
