George Conway’s Musical Tribute to Subway Sandwich Incident
George Conway, known for his anti-Trump stance, paid homage on Thursday to a former Justice Department official who threw a Subway sandwich at a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agent. This tribute was accompanied by a playful musical rendition set to a Bob Marley classic.
A jury in Washington, D.C., found Sean Dunn, the former official, not guilty of misdemeanor assault despite the incident being well-documented. CBP agent Gregory Laremore noted that he could “smell” the sandwich’s onions and mustard and felt its impact through his protective gear. Conway performed “I Shot the Sheriff” right before Dunn’s acquittal.
In his rendition, Conway humorously sang, “I threw the sandwich, but I didn’t throw the condiment,” while strumming a guitar adorned with a “Republican Voters Against Trump” sticker. He added, “They’re trying to track me down… but I say I threw the sandwich, and it was really the provolone that threw it.” It was a light-hearted take on a serious situation.
Conway also poked fun at Jeanine Pirro, the U.S. attorney for D.C., who had announced plans to indict Dunn on a felony charge, hinting at her fondness for wine in a post he made.
Attorney General Pam Bondi announced Dunn’s termination shortly after the incident. She emphasized that any assault on a law enforcement officer would be taken seriously, highlighting Dunn’s previous position with the Department of Justice.
Federal misdemeanor charges were pushed against Dunn after a grand jury declined to pursue felony charges. Dunn’s defense lawyer argued that gag gifts, like a “felony footlong” patch given to Laremore and a sandwich-shaped stuffed toy, demonstrated that the case was being overstated.
Conway, a co-founder of the Lincoln Project and previously married to Kellyanne Conway, has expressed opposition to protests dubbed “No Kings.” He was spotted wearing an “I Am Antifa” shirt at one event and announced his divorce in March 2023.
