Miss Mexico Responds to Controversial Pageant Incident
Miss Mexico, Fatima Bosch, has spoken out following a tense confrontation with Miss Universe pageant executives that caused a stir, prompting some contestants to walk out in protest.
The incident, which was broadcast live on November 4, featured Miss Universe Organization Secretary General Nawat Isaragrisil verbally berating Bosch, calling her a “dummy” after she expressed concern over a missing social media photo shoot. “Mexico, where are you?” he asked the audience. This spurred Bosch to stand up and defend herself, leading to a heated exchange.
“I heard that you don’t support everything in Thailand. Is that true?” he prodded. Bosch retorted, “Because I have a voice. You don’t respect me as a woman.” This prompted Isaragrisil to summon security, leading to a mass exit by the other contestants.
In a video shared afterwards, Bosch expressed her frustration and detailed the situation. “Your director has no respect. He called me stupid,” she said in an interview. “I’m just trying to be nice in this space.” She went on to highlight the importance of women’s voices being heard in such platforms.
A representative from Miss Universe’s PR team reassured that the organization is committed to empowering women and fostering an inclusive environment. Miguel Ángel Martínez stated, “Miss Universe is primarily a platform to amplify women’s voices with respect and pride.” He also noted that they are working closely with leadership to provide a safe experience for all participants while maintaining the values of empowerment and cultural celebration.
In the wake of the incident, Isaragrisil broke down in tears while apologizing for his comments, stating, “I didn’t want to do something like that.” He addressed the crowd at a subsequent event, expressing remorse and affirming his respect for all contestants.
