Trump Responds to Pelosi’s Retirement Announcement

President Donald Trump has commented on former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s decision to retire, expressing that her departure is “a great thing for America.” He made these remarks following her announcement that she won’t seek re-election when her current term concludes in January 2027.

Pelos, who is 85, stated on Thursday that she looks forward to serving her constituents in her final year. “I look forward to working with you in my final year as a proud representative,” she mentioned in a posted message.

“Nancy Pelosi’s retirement is a great thing for America,” Trump shared during an interview. He further criticized her, saying, “She was evil, corrupt, and focused only on what was bad for our country.” In his view, she was losing control of the Democratic Party and added, “I’m so honored that she impeached me twice and failed miserably both times. Nancy Pelosi is a very overrated politician.”

Pelosi stepped down from her leadership position in the House after Republicans regained control in 2023 but remained a key adversary of Trump during his return to the White House that same year.

This week, Pelosi referred to Trump as a “vile creature” and claimed he was “the worst thing on earth.” Her strong criticism during Trump’s first term included overseeing his impeachment and famously tearing up his State of the Union address while seated behind him.

Trump reflected on that event, stating, “I thought it was terrible,” and suggested it was illegal for her to destroy an official government document. He reiterated that what she did was “highly illegal.”

In contrast, former President Barack Obama took a moment to commend Pelosi on social media for her “leadership” and “friendship,” labeling her as “one of the best speakers in the history of the House.”
