Prince Harry’s Dodgers Hat Controversy
Prince Harry shared his thoughts on why he wore a Dodgers hat during Game 4 of the World Series, dubbing it “Hatgate.” He expressed some regret over the choice, particularly given his ties to Canada.
During a recent performance, he extended an apology to Canada for his attire, acknowledging the mixed reactions he received. “First of all, I want to apologize to Canada for wearing it. Secondly, I was under duress,” he explained. Harry attended the game with his wife, Meghan Markle.
He elaborated that he felt compelled to wear the hat after being invited to the Dodgers’ box by the team’s owner, Mark Walter. “I didn’t have much of a choice… I was just trying to be polite. But I’ll wear it [this Blue Jays hat] from now on, and I aim to avoid such errors again,” he noted.
Meghan hails from California and lives in Santa Barbara with their two kids, Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4.
Harry, 41, also mentioned that part of his motivation for wearing the hat was to conceal his thinning hair under the stadium lights. “When I’m losing hair and sitting under a floodlight, I’ll wear any hat I can find,” he admitted, revealing his support for the Blue Jays moving forward. “So, for Game 5, Game 6, Game 7, I was a Blue Jay. Now that I’ve said that, going back to Los Angeles might be tough.”
He expressed surprise over the outcome of the game, stating, “I’m very sorry to the Canadian people. I’m shocked that the Blue Jays lost, but Jays, let’s go.” Photos from the event captured Harry and Meghan cheering in matching blue Dodgers hats.
After stepping back from royal duties in 2020, the couple relocated to California, where they enjoyed time in Toronto earlier on during Meghan’s filming of Suits.
Sadly, the Blue Jays faced a painful defeat in the World Series, losing Game 7 at home, with the Dodgers clinching the win after a dramatic 11th-inning home run by Will Smith, ending the game 5-4.
