Browns disclose Shedeur Sanders' position before game against Jets

Shedeur Sanders Updates Status

No more street clothes for Shedeur Sanders.

The rookie quarterback was sidelined last week due to a back injury during the Browns’ loss to the Patriots. However, he’ll be back in a backup role behind Dillon Gabriel for the upcoming game against the Jets, as announced by coach Kevin Stefanski on Friday.

Since Joe Flacco was traded in early October, Sanders has moved up to the No. 2 position on the quarterback depth chart.

It’s worth noting that Sanders is still ahead of veteran Bailey Zappe, who was chosen in the fifth round of the draft. Cleveland is just coming off a bye week, hoping to bounce back and return to winning form.

Interestingly, despite having played in the preseason, Sanders hasn’t yet made his regular-season NFL debut. He had a decent showing in his preseason game against the Panthers, throwing for 138 yards and two touchdowns. The Browns currently stand at 1-3 with Gabriel, struggling to score at least 20 points in three out of his four starts.

In other news, the team listed wide receiver Cedric Tillman as active for Sunday, as he returns from a four-game absence due to a hamstring injury. Tight end Harold Fannin Jr., rookie linebacker Carson Schwesinger, and offensive tackle Cornelius Lucas are all marked as questionable for the game.

As it stands, the Browns are currently placed last in the AFC North and the playoff hopes look pretty slim.
