NFL requests all teams to observe a moment of silence for Marshawn Kneeland

NFL Games to Honor Marshawn Kneeland

This Sunday, all 12 NFL games are set to pay tribute to the late Marshawn Kneeland.

According to reports, the NFL sent out a memo to each team on Friday, requesting that they observe a moment of silence prior to the games in the wake of his tragic passing.

Following the moment of silence, a message will be shared at every stadium: “If you or someone you know is struggling or in need of emotional support, please call or text 988. The Suicide and Crisis Lifeline is available 24/7.”

The league’s decision came just two days after Kneeland had initiated a moment of silence before a game between the Broncos and Raiders.

Sadly, Kneeland, only 24 years old, was discovered dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound following a police chase, as confirmed by the Texas Department of Public Safety.

On Wednesday night, police attempted to stop him after he committed a traffic violation but he fled. They eventually lost track of his vehicle.

Later, officers located Kneeland’s abandoned car; however, his body was found in a porta potty near the vehicle, according to police audio released by TMZ. The audio also captured a conversation with Kneeland’s girlfriend, Katarina, who expressed concern that he was armed and in crisis.

“We’re talking to the girlfriend and she’s trying to call an agent, but she mentions he’s armed and has a history of mental illness, saying, ‘he’s going to end it all,'” the dispatcher relayed.

This week, the Cowboys have a bye and will play their first game since business this Monday, November 17, against the Raiders.

If you or anyone you know is facing a crisis, it’s important to reach out for help. Just call or text 988, or visit 988lifeline.org for confidential support.
