FDNY Firefighter Dies in Brooklyn Fire

An 11-year veteran of the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) tragically passed away while on duty on Saturday, as confirmed by Commissioner Robert S. Tucker and Mayor Eric Adams.

Firefighter Patrick Brady, 42, was attending a fire on the roof of an apartment building in Brooklyn when he reportedly experienced a medical emergency and went into cardiac arrest, according to a press release.

Brady received immediate care from fellow firefighters and Emergency Medical Services. He was then transported to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, where he later died.

“The entire FDNY is heartbroken by the loss of Firefighter Patrick Brady. He was a dedicated public servant; firefighting was in his blood,” Commissioner Tucker said in a statement. “We join in mourning this immeasurable loss, thinking of his family, friends, and colleagues.”

Brady, a Queens resident, leaves behind his wife, Carla, and two brothers, Jimmy and Brian, who are also firefighters with the FDNY. The firefighting legacy continues in Brady’s family, including cousins and uncles who serve in the department.

Mayor Adams also expressed his condolences: “Firefighter Brady comes from a family of firefighters, all dedicated to protecting the lives of their fellow New Yorkers. Our hearts go out to his wife Carla and the entire family during this challenging time.”

Further details about the fire were not disclosed, except that it was categorized as a 5-alarm fire.

Patrick Brady marks the 1,163rd death in the line of duty for the FDNY. Funeral plans are currently being arranged.

The FDNY announced that members will display purple and black bunting on the exterior of FDNY Ladder 120, where Firefighter Brady served.
