Leidos and TSA Creating a More Efficient Airport Experience with Easier Passenger Screening

Leidos CEO Discusses Future of Airport Security at Event

During a policy event hosted by Breitbart News in Washington, D.C., Leidos CEO Tom Bell presented insights about a prototype being developed in collaboration with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and the Department of Homeland Security. This project aims to enhance passenger screening at airports.

His remarks followed a discussion between Breitbart News Washington Bureau Chief Matthew Boyle and Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy.

Bell noted, “If you go to any airport in the world, Dulles doesn’t seem like an airport that any of us would be very proud of,” while speaking at the event alongside Breitbart News economics editor John Carney.

He explained that Leidos is “currently working with the TSA and the Department of Homeland Security to prototype a new airport of the future with world-class checkpoints and passenger screening facilities.” The envisioned system would be “remotely controlled and not crowded with people screening every bag.” Instead, it aims to “automate that process and have humans get up and go out and think about the whole situation instead of individual bags.”

Bell suggested a timeline of 2026 for these advancements, emphasizing that this year is significant with events such as the U.S. quincentenary, the World Cup, and Olympics preparations. “I think all Americans want this society to be seen as a modern, progressive society that embraces technology and everything that America stands for,” he stated.

He praised Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem as “another great Cabinet member in the Trump administration,” highlighting her commitment to creating a favorable environment for international travelers.

Earlier that morning, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy commented on the Big Beautiful Act which relates to aviation funding. He mentioned that the Department of Transportation requires $31.5 billion to modernize the Air Traffic Control System (ATC), with $12.5 billion specifically allocated for essential communications and surveillance equipment. Duffy also expressed that President Trump is well-aware of the “challenges we have in our nation’s airspace” and has shown “100 percent support” for ATC upgrades, calling the endeavor a bipartisan necessity.
