Spicer Criticizes Booing of Trump at NFL Game
Former White House press secretary Sean Spicer expressed his displeasure over the football fans who booed President Donald Trump during a recent induction ceremony. His comments came during an appearance on “The Morning Meeting” on Monday.
Trump was at the game between the Washington Commanders and the Detroit Lions held at Commanders Stadium in Maryland. Reports indicate he was seen reading an oath intended for military personnel. While Spicer mentioned he personally has no issue with booing Trump himself, he found the timing to be unfortunate, especially given the context.
“It was particularly troubling to see it happen on Veterans Day weekend while military recruits were being honored,” Spicer remarked. He called the booing “disgusting and pathetic,” emphasizing that while people have the right to express their feelings about the president, this moment was not the appropriate time.
Spicer continued, “Members of our country are taking the oath of service to our military on the battlefield, and here we are booing them. It’s really upsetting.” He also suggested that while booing upon arrival or departure is within one’s First Amendment rights, the moment simply wasn’t right for such displays.
Additionally, during the game, Trump joined Fox Sports in the broadcast booth, offering live commentary and reminiscing about his days playing high school football at the New York Military Academy. He reflected on his experiences, saying, “Our quarterback didn’t have a very strong arm. I think 10 yards was a long pass. I had a great time and loved it.”
