Concerns Over New NYC Mayor’s Policies

During an event with Breitbart News, EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin expressed concerns about New York City’s future under incoming Mayor Zoran Mamdani, describing the situation as a struggle for the city to “survive” his leadership.

Zeldin, a former congressman, criticized the Democratic Party for catering to its far-left activists. He acknowledged Mamdani’s election, stating, “Now he’s the next mayor of New York,” but he voiced worries about the city’s trajectory, particularly regarding economic challenges that may worsen.

“The budget includes a fiscal issue that’s set to escalate,” he pointed out. “Security concerns are on the rise, which will drive residents and businesses away. And yet, the question remains: ‘Why are we taxing the rich?'” He recalled how former Mayor de Blasio’s tenure began, noting how his call for higher taxes and early childhood education seemed misguided in hindsight.

“In 2014, when Andrew Cuomo was seeking re-election, he approached de Blasio with funding plans for early education. But de Blasio felt it wasn’t sufficient. He wanted even more tax increases,” Zeldin recounted, suggesting the motives for taxing the wealthy were politically driven and linked to the 2013 elections.

Zeldin remarked, “If New York leaders continue to antagonize the wealthy, those billionaires might just take off—likely already booked on a flight to Florida.” He warned that even the few remaining business owners might leave without hesitation.

He characterized the outcomes of left-leaning policies as “disastrous” and emphasized the need for New York City to endure the upcoming four years under Mamdani. The fate of Mamdani’s potential re-election remains uncertain, as Zeldin highlighted the city’s overall downward direction.

“It really is up to the city to make that choice,” he said, expressing sympathy for voters who opposed such changes. He added, “But for those who either supported it or stayed inactive, I can’t say I feel the same way.”
