Pennsylvania’s Invitation to New Yorkers
Attention, New Yorkers—maybe it’s time to look away from Florida. Pennsylvania is ready to welcome you.
Republican Senator Dave McCormick is reaching out to those in New York City who are feeling uneasy with the ascension of Democratic Socialist Mayor-elect Zoran Mamdani, not to mention the high taxes and the recent departure of a football team. He’s suggesting they “come down” to the Keystone State for a fresh start.
“Pennsylvania is where America began. We’ve got mountains, a successful football team, and top-notch universities. Everyone should feel they can embrace America, freedom, and faith,” McCormick said in a video shared on Monday.
“Forget about high taxes, socialists, and losing football teams. If you’re ready for a change, just take Interstate 80 west. The Keystone State is waiting for you,” the lawmaker, endorsed by Trump, added.
His football comments seemed directed at the struggling New York Jets and Giants. In fact, the Giants recently fired their head coach, Brian Daboll, after a season of disappointing losses. Both teams currently languish at the bottom of the NFL standings.
Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Eagles are thriving, boasting a Super Bowl win against the Kansas City Chiefs earlier this year and a solid 6-2 record this season ahead of their upcoming matchup with the Green Bay Packers.
McCormick also highlighted that Pennsylvania is at the forefront of the AI revolution and life sciences innovation, claiming these sectors are generating countless job opportunities across the state.
Since Mamdani’s election win last week, many have speculated that New Yorkers might be looking to leave the city.
Governor Greg Abbott of Texas has already dismissed the anticipated migration and humorously suggested a “100% tariff” on New Yorkers seeking refuge, though how that would be enforced remains a mystery.
Florida is also welcoming Wall Street firms to its Boca Raton area.
In fact, a sheriff from Volusia County has extended an invitation to New Yorkers and NYC police officers feeling discontented with the election results.
Mamdani campaigned on bold promises like freezing rents, establishing public grocery stores, and increasing taxes for the city’s wealthy. Some affluent supporters of former Governor Andrew Cuomo have threatened to leave the city if Mamdani assumes office.
